One Wednesday evening each month, we'll meet virtually for chat,
Q&A, storytelling, and sisterhood time.

that contains one powerful question, one life-and-love-enhancing mission,
and one piece of sister wisdom that puts you in the center
of your own heart, energy, time, and focus.

Why are you a good leader for The Circle, Kate?
You may already know that I'm a singer, storyteller, harper, poet, and teacher.
But what you may not know yet is that in addition to decades of teaching at the university level, I've been leading groups of women in joyful artistry and magic for many years.
For the last decade, I've brought together a group of women to celebrate the Irish Brigit - goddess and saint - and her role as patron of poetry and healing. We come together to drink tea, catch up on our news, sing, light a sacred candle, and witness each other as we share art and stories. It's beautiful and the group has sparked friendships, books of poetry, and a deep sense of belonging and being cared for.
I'm also thrilled to the marrow by singing with other women, and have truly loved helping women discover their joyful voices and their ability to send love through music in my Sing Your Soul groups.
Through these experiences and in my life as a performer, I've become skilled at holding and directing a group's energy. One of my highest values is the Irish word fáilte - welcome. It is important to me that every woman be heard, valued, respected, and loved. I'm good at shaping a container for those values and feelings. In short, there are no "mean girls" in my groups - only women who are prepared to find the best in another and celebrate it.

Will I master an art - like poetry or singing - in The Circle?
You'll experience and practice many different arts (see above). You'll use these experiences and practices to help you deepen your artistry, which encompasses the individual arts you practice. Artistry is about approach, choices, exploration, and personal aesthetic. It's about how you do everything in your life - from cooking to singing to getting dressed to being a friend to paying your bills. That's why I believe that setting a goal of growing in artistry is so valuable. It touches, enlivens, and enriches your whole life.
What will we really learn in The Circle?
Because our aim is to grow in artistry and magic, we'll learn skills that pertain to both. Skills you'll learn and practice include shifting and shaping energy, perceiving energy, engaging vision, sparking and feeding your imagination, creating and using ritual and practice, and using your art and artistry as a vehicle for blessing and love.
What do you mean by the term "Magic"?
Magic, as I understand and practice it, is the conscious movement of energy. We perform magic when we shift or shape energy in a way that affects both the wholeness of our inner world and also our outer world. The tools I use most often in my own magic-making are play and imagination. We'll work a great deal with these powerful tools in The Circle.
What do you mean by "Artistry"?
Artistry is using your energy to create with choice, intention, and purpose.
What if I can't be present for one of the Retreats? Should I still register?
The Retreats are our opportunity to enjoy one another, practice magic, and expand our artistry in the safety of a supportive container. Ideally, each woman will be able to attend all four. However, I know that life throws many curve balls at us. If you miss a Retreat, you can access a video or audio recording and enjoy it anytime you like. I'll also be fostering discussion in our Facebook group, so you'll be able to ask your sisters for their help and wisdom, too. So if you think you may need to miss one Retreat but you're eager to join us, I encourage you to register for The Circle anyway.
Do I need to believe anything special - or not believe anything - in order to participate?
Definitely not! The Circle is about playing with energy - our own, mostly! If you have ever found yourself in a bad mood and then succeeded in distracting yourself with new thoughts, you've played with energy. The reason we want to grow in magic and artistry is to experience more freedom and joy in our lives. The skills and practices we'll work with in The Circle are not affiliated with any religion or brand of spirituality.
What are the concrete results of working with you in this way?
Mainly, I see people become happier and freer. That's a big one! It is beautiful to watch a powerful woman unfurl her wings and exercise her sovereignty. I've actually noticed that my students' posture changes; they stand straighter and move with more energy. Their faces become more luminous and they smile more often and more freely.
Life changes include leaving unsuitable jobs, improving relationships, re-committing to joyful artistic practice, and starting a business.
